Foreign Minister Delivers Iraq’s Speech at Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh in Washington

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim delivered Iraq’s speech at the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh in Washington.

The minister began the speech by praising the support of the countries of the global coalition to Iraq in its war against terrorism in various fields.

Mr. Alhakim stressed that the Iraqi security forces of all types presented the best images of courage and sacrifice to liberate the land from Da’esh terrorist gangs , stating that Iraq obtains its strength from the unity of its people and integrity of its territories and was able to restore security and stability with the help of the Global Coalition.

Minister Alhakim added: The Iraqi government is determined to enforce law, fight corruption, secure basic services for all citizens, support stability, revive the economy and return displaced people to their homes.

Minister Alhakim expressed his hope that countries that pledged assistance in the Iraq reconstruction conference in Kuwait to abide by their commitments, calling on the countries of the world to support Iraq in its war to eliminate the sleeper cells of the Da’esh terrorist gangs and to participate in the reconstruction of the liberated areas.

Minister Alhakim Reaffirmed the importance of observing the basic principles of the global coalition, including: full respect for the sovereignty of Iraq, and that all its operations be conducted with the knowledge and approval of the Iraqi government, prior consultation with the Iraqi security forces, full respect for the Iraqi constitution, and Iraq's obligations under the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

Minister Alhakim stressed in the context of combating cross-border terrorism: "We stress the need to intensify the efforts of the coalition to eliminate terrorism in Syria and to ensure that it does not return, while preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity” in order to maintain the great victory achieved on cross-border terrorism in Iraq.
