Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, Mr. Vladimir Vornikov and Mrs. Michèle Coninsx Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate on the margins of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and discussed the overall political and security situation in Iraq, and the international support provided for Iraq in the fight against terrorism.

Minister Al-Jaafari stated that Iraq is a country that has faced a global war against Daesh terrorist gangs and has won and that security and intelligence cooperation among the countries of the world should continue.

Minister Al-Jaafari stated that the victories achieved in Iraq o against terrorism came in recognition to the unity of Iraqi society, and the support of friendly countries, and international organizations.

Minister Al-Jaafari added "We thank the United Nations for its support for Iraq, and we stress the importance of preserving the victory achieved and urging their elimination from every country in the world.

On his part, UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. Vladimir Vornikov, said: "The past months have witnessed a high level of coordination in the collection of information on terrorists and we are working to restore counter-terrorism strategy. He also praised the sacrifices made by the Iraqis in the face of the Daesh terrorist gangs: We express our admiration for the courage of the Iraqis, and appreciate the sacrifices they made in the war against terrorism, and we will continue to do everything possible to enhance its security and stability.

"Our teams visited Baghdad and Falluja in the framework of our cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi government to develop practical mechanisms for the implementation of projects to develop counter-terrorism in the coming period."
