Foreign Minister Meets U.S. State Department Advisor

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari met with his U.S. counterpart, State Department Advisor Brett McGurk, on June 11, 2013 to discuss Iraqi-U.S. relations, developments of the Syrian crisis and the political and security status in Iraq.

Mr. McGurk conveyed President Barack Obama's approval on extending the exceptional protection of Iraqi assets in the U.S. for another year. He also stressed that President Obama's decision to extend the protection symbolizes the distinctive partnership between the two countries under the Strategic Framework Agreement.

Minister Zebari expressed that Iraq hopes for a political solution in Syria and supports a democratic and peaceful transition in the country.
