Foreign Minister Receives Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Mr. Alexander Lavrentiev

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim received the Russian President’s special envoy to Syria; Mr. Alexander Lavrentiev.

The two sides discussed the Iraqi-Russian relations and means of activating the results of the meeting of the joint committee between the two countries, which was held in Baghdad.

Minister Alhakim stressed the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations through the diversification of consultation frameworks and joint cooperation, expressing Baghdad’s aspiration for the continue and increase of Moscow’s support for all efforts exerted at various political, economic, developmental and social levels.

They two sides also discussed efforts to advance political solutions to crises in the region, consultations on how to deal with various issues, and regional challenges that Iraq calls for sustainable solutions, including the situation in Syria, the phase after the conflict, the return of displaced Syrians and the provision of humanitarian assistance as well as other issues related to stability in the region.
