His Excellency Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has received, Today on Sunday, Minister of Defense of the Italian Mrs. Elisabetta Trenta and her accompanying delegation.

Mrs. Elisabetta Trenta has congratulated him on the formation of the Government and the assumption of his duties as Prime Minister, confirming the commitment of Italy to stand by the Government of Iraq in the face of challenges and its great responsibilities.
Mrs. Elisabetta Trenta has pointed to Italy's interest in the war against Daesh because it "represents a threat to Iraq firstly and to the Europeans and the world secondly, expressing her country's concern about the continuation of terrorist financing networks and the culture of extremism, while insisting on supporting Iraq, especially in training the armed and security forces. She has considered that as a part of Italy's commitment to security in Iraq and the world at large.

In turn, His Excellency Prime Minister has welcomed the guest and the accompanying delegation, praising the good historical relations between the two countries.

His Excellency has stressed that democracy in Iraq is growing, developing and maturing, and called for the peaceful transfer of power that the country has been deprived of it for decades.

His Excellency has said: The country has achieved great victories in its war on al Qaeda and then Daesh, but is still engaged in a fierce war against the remnants of cancerous terrorism, urging friendly countries to support Iraq in its fight against terrorism and to support its economy because it "not only defends the security of its citizens but also the security of the entire world." assuring that this war remains a priority for the Iraqi government and can't be isolated from the priorities of development, democracy and citizens' rights.

His Excellency has commended the historic role played by the almarjieia's fatwa in mobilizing the people to support the armed forces, saying "the support of the armed forces from the popular mobilization, Peshmerga and other popular forces enabled our armed forces to obtain the opportunity to rebuild, restructure, and recruit in the war against Daesh, while all Iraqi forces are under the command of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces".

The meeting dealt with several other topics, including the agreement to deal with the issues between the parties.
