Iraq Hosts First International Conference to Combat Terrorism

The first international conference to combat terrorism opened in Baghdad, Iraq on March 12, 2014. More than 25 countries participated in the conference, with over 40 experts and specialists discussing ways to combat terrorism.

Conference participants included a number of international figures and representatives from United Nations, Arab League, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, International Police, and senior officials in the Iraqi government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki opened the conference with a speech, in which he stressed that the world came to be united in the face of terrorism, and the convening of the conference in Baghdad represented a strong and clear message to these criminal groups. The Prime Minister further stressed the government's efforts to rally all nations to confront terrorism and extremism.

The conference was hosted by the Republic of Iraq from March 12 -13, 2014.
