Iraqi President Meets US Ambassador, Matthew Tueller

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih met with US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace.
The close bilateral relations, and the mutual cooperation between Iraq and the USA across all the fields were discussed during the meeting. President Salih and the American Ambassador discussed how best to strengthen the prospects for further cooperation and where there could be further dialogue and functional commissions on strategic issues of common interest.
Meeting agenda included how to promote their nations’ ties across all sectors in ways that best serve the interests of both peoples, bring peace and security to all the region and respect Iraqi sovereignty.
They emphasized how important it was to work together in addressing the challenges presented by terror, with focus on the need to increase cooperation on the issues of curbing corruption, drying up the sources of terrorist funding, environmental protection and confronting climate change.
Recent developments in regional and international situations in addition to issues of common concern were discussed by the meeting participants.
The two sides agreed that tensions in the region needed to be calmed, and solutions to all lingering issues should be found through dialogue in order to maintain peace and security in the region.
