Iraqi-Turkish Relations and Steps Towards a Strategic Relationship

During the meeting, which brought together the Foreign Ministers of Iraq and Turkey, Minister Alhakim and Minister Çavuşoğlu , who discussed issues of interest to the two neighboring countries.

Minister Alhakim stressed the importance and depth of the Iraqi-Turkish relations, which extend to great social, economic and political horizons stressing that the two countries must coordinate all efforts to overcome the obstacles that prevent the establishment of balanced and sustainable relations. In the same context, the Minister called on Turkey to support the reconstruction of liberated areas which positively reflects the stability of the people of these areas and helps to push the economy in Iraq and Turkey alike.

On his part, Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu thanked the guest minister and wished him and the new Iraqi government success in its mission to achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people stressing that Turkey is always a friend of Iraq and that Baghdad and Ankara will be an important axis in the stability of the region.

In the conclusion of the meeting , the two sides agreed to resume work within the Iraqi-Turkish Joint Commission, which will be held in Iraq early this year during the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq.
