PRESIDENT SALIH DURING GREETING HIS PALESTINIAN COUNTERPART: A NECESSITY TO EXERT EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE THE HOPES OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE AND REALIZE THEIR FULL LEGITIMATE RIGHTS

President Barham Salih received H.E. Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President and his accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad on Monday, March 4, 2019.
An official welcoming ceremony was held. The national anthems of the two countries were played. The two Presidents inspected the Presidential Guards who lined up to salute them.
His Excellency expressed his great pleasure and welcomed the visit of the Palestinian President to Iraq, wishing him a fruitful and successful visit.
The President and his Palestinian counterpart held an extensive meeting during which they referred to the depth of historical brotherly relations as well as the joint ties between Iraq and Palestine and the need to work on their development and advancement in a way that serves the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
The two Presidents also discussed a number of important dossiers to enhance cooperation and coordination in all fields in order to ensure the realization of common interests.
President Salih stressed the importance of protecting AlQads as well as sanctities from any violations.
His Excellency stressed the need to exert efforts to achieve the hopes of the brotherly Palestinian people for peace and stability as well as to realize their full legitimate rights.
The President indicated that Iraq was and still is a pioneer in the defense of Palestine and considers it the cause number one in international forums.
For his part, the Palestinian President expressed his congratulations to Iraq as people and government for the victory over ISIS gangs and the liberation of cities.
He expressed the desire of his government to develop and expand bilateral relations.
President Mahmoud Abbas renewed the solidarity of the Palestinian people with their Iraqi brothers in addressing terrorism.
The meeting also discussed the latest updates and developments in the Arab and regional arenas and the need to work to support the unity of Arab ranks to achieve security and stability in the region.
