Press Statement

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has followed up on the decision issued by the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump to pardon a number of those convicted of killing fourteen Iraqis and wounding others in 2007, in an incident that was denounced on international level as well as the local disapproval and rejection it created.
The Ministry believes that this decision did not take into account the seriousness of the crime committed and was inconsistent with the US administration’s declared commitment to the values of human rights, justice and the rule of law, and regrettably ignores the dignity of the victims and the feelings and rights of their relatives.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry will follow up the matter with the United States government through diplomatic channels to urge it to reconsider this decision.
