The 2023 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund commenced in Washington D.C. from April 14th to the 15th. The Iraqi delegation, led by the Minister of Finance Taif Sami and the Governor of the Central Bank Ali Al-Alaq, and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq participated in the meetings.
During the course of the meetings, the delegation engaged in several discussions with numerous executive and regional directors from the financial and economic institutions of the Bank and the Fund. The delegation emphasized the critical importance of strengthening relationships with various international partners, promoting the development of regional and international cooperation, resolving all challenges, and removing any obstacles that may hinder the enhancement of investment opportunities and the establishment of projects in Iraq. Furthermore, the delegation underscored the necessity of involving the private sector in playing its role in the overall economic activity to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, as well as providing technical support.
