The Foreign Ministry Celebrates International Women's Day

Foreign Ministry organized a celebration on the occasion of International Women's Day with the participation of Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim attended by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations.

Minister Alhakim stated in a speech that "The Foreign Ministry supports all efforts aimed at empowering women and enhancing their role in various aspects of political, economic and social life," and also stated that "The Ministry has set the goal of supporting women in the diplomatic corps, and women have enjoyed their share in being posted abroad and taking up leadership positions in addition to participating in significant achievements of the Ministry.

Minister Alhakim stressed that the Iraqi woman has suffered a lot from meaningless wars, and crimes of Da'esh terrorist gangs, especially the Yazidi women who have been subjected to the worst crimes by these terrorist gangs, noting that the Foreign Ministry has succeeded with the support of the United Nations and friendly countries in the Security Council in the adoption of resolution 2379 - 2017, which states the formation of an international team to collect evidence of the crimes committed by Da'esh terrorist gangs, and bring these elements to justice.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert gave a speech on this occasion, and the Head of the Women's Committee in the Ministry, Minister Plenipotentiary Barekhan Shawqi.

The ceremony included a presentation by the Iraqi fashion house titled "Eve of Iraq", and a musical orchestra by organ musician Ms. Rana Jassim, as well as a visual art exhibition of Iraqi female diplomats.
