President Barham Salih on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, mourned the Iraqi Archeologist Dr. Lamia al-Gilani, who passed away at the age of 80, in Amman.
His Excellency lauded the prestigious status of the deceased and her distinguished efforts in the field of archeology.
The following is the full text:
"We have received with deep pain and grief the news about the death of archaeologist Dr. Lamia al-Gilani, one of the first Iraqi women, who excavated the rich archaeological heritage of the country, and she was an expert in Sumerian seals.

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi met the US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan as the official reception ceremony conducted at the Pentagon.

At the beginning of the meeting, the US Secretary of Defense offered his condolences to the Iraqi people on the ferry incident, expressing his pain and sympathy with the victims, welcoming the visiting delegation, stressing the importance of developing relations and communication between Washington and Baghdad.

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United States hosted a group of members of the National Press Club and the International Correspondents Committee at a reception held at the embassy's headquarters reflecting Iraq's commitment to building and enhancing communication bridges with the external world.
