Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani welcomed a delegation from the American company Baker Hughes at his residence in Washington, D.C., early Thursday morning (Baghdad time).
During the meeting, they discussed the company`s operations in Iraq in the oil and gas sectors. The Prime Minister stressed that gas projects are a priority for the government to meet the needs of power stations and to stop the environmental damage caused by gas flaring. He encouraged the company to contribute to establishing a chemical plant for materials used in drilling and oil extraction processes.

The Chairman of Iraq’s National Investment Commission (NIC), Dr. Sami Al-Araji, today signed the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (the ICSID Convention).

Iraq has become the 160th country to sign the Convention and the 152nd country to become a member of the International Centre Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). The ICSID Convention encourages the flow of investment across borders by providing substantial legal protections for foreign investors.

On July 13, Ambassador Al Khirullah met with Steve Lutes, Vice President of Middle East Affairs at US Chamber of Commerce and Head of Iraqi-American Business Council (USIBC) and discussed with him the meetings’ outcome of the Iraqi-American Business Council’s delegation visit to Iraq last June, highlighting the government’s orientation towards boosting commercial relations and partnership between the private sector of both countries; and reviewing the government’s priorities on energy, renewable energy, desalination and cooperation in health sector between both countries’ institutes. ...... "The Enemy of My Enemy: An Uneasy Coalition and the Threat of ISIS" at the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC discussed geo-strategic implications of the rise of ISIS.

President Salih met today with the Prime Minister of Italy, Mr. Giuseppe Conte. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
President Salih said that Iraq seeks to establish productive and mutually beneficial relations with Italy and the European Union.

H.E. President Dr. Barham Salih stressed that the relations between Iraq and Kuwait have made significant strides due to the wisdom and the desire of the leaderships of the two countries to overcome the legacy of the past.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received a phone call from German Foreign Minister Mr. Heiko Maas. The two Ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and the prospects for promoting them to meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed his keenness to enhance ways of bilateral cooperation with Berlin in various fields.

Ambassador Al Khirullah met with the founder of Taylor Global Strategies TGS, the consultant Scott Taylor at the Embassy’s headquarters on June 24 and reviewed the government’s orientation to enhance economic opportunities and investments before the international companies, including the American ones to enter the local market of Iraq with a view to exchange expertise and raise the development level in our country. ...
