The Council of Minsters issued the following statement today after its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi on the relationship between Iraq and the international coalition in the war against Daesh.

The Government of Iraq today steadfastly denied that it has signed any contracts to buy military weapons, ammunition or other military equipment from Iran, as alleged in some recent news reports. In a statement, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense explained that numerous international firms, including Iran’s Defense Industries Organization, recently submitted offers to provide Iraq with military hardware, but the proposal from Iran was rejected.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement on the death of Brigadier General Rafid Mohammed Hassan, an Iraqi student pilot whose F-16 fighter crashed near Douglas, Arizona during a training mission with the Arizona Air National Guard’s 162nd Wing:

The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, to consider H.R. 1654, a bill to “authorize the direct provision of defense articles, defense services, and related training to the Kurdistan Regional Government.”

Al Anbar District and specifically the city of Fallujah remain under the control of terrorist groups, led by a group which calls itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq expresses its condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the Russian Federation following the crash of the N-26 plane, which claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

We renew the solidarity and support of the government and people of the Republic of Iraq to the families of the victims in these difficult circumstances, and we express our heartfelt words of support to them.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry regrets the statement by the United States Administration on the discontinuation of its financial assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which is a major disappointment for the peace efforts sought by world's nations and humanitarian organizations to bring justice to the heroic Palestinian people, to resolve their just cause and to end the unjust violation.

His Excellency Prime Minister the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Dr. Haider Al-Abadi has ordered all operations leaders in the provinces to tighten the security procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) warehouses and increase the security forces allocated for its protection.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed its strong condemnation and for the terrorist attack on Ahwaz, which resulted in the deaths of several members of the Iranian security services and civilians.

The Foreign Ministry reiterates Iraq's firm stance on the rejection of violence regardless of motives, reasons and in any country, which would tarnish the security and stability of the country.

The ministry expresses its condolences to the victims' families, the government and the people of the Islamic Republic, and wishes the wounded speedy recovery.
