The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington D.C. would like to extend its best wishes to the Iraqi community in the United States of America on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. On this occasion, may God’s blessings shower our country and its people with prosperity, security, and safety.

On 11 March 2021, H.E. Mr. Hussein held a virtual video conference with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in which he talked about the cooperation between Iraq and NATO and the latter’s training mission in Iraq.

For his part, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General, focused on discussions of the long-standing political and military dialogue between NATO and Iraqi officials, including his regular contacts with the Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and Foreign Minister Mr. Hussein.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein delivered the speech of Iraq at the high-level session of the Conference on Disarmament, which was held virtually on 22/2/2021, in which he affirmed the Iraqi government’s adherence to disarmament and non-proliferation agreements and treaties, believing that universal accession to international agreements related to weapons of mass destruction and universal compliance with them without discrimination, and the elimination of these weapons is one of the main pillars that promote global peace and stability, noting that the spread of the Corona virus pandemic... Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with his counterpart Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and discussed with him the bilateral relations and the importance of mutual support at all levels.

التقى فؤاد حسين وزير الخارجيّة مع د. أحمد أبو الغيط الأمين العامّ لجامعة الدول العربيّة، وتشاور الجانبان حول التحضيرات اللازمة لانعقاد الاجتماع الطارئ لمجلس الجامعة العربيّة على المُستوى الوزاريّ الذي دعت له المملكة الأردنيّة الهاشميّة وجمهوريّة مصر العربيّة، كما بحثا الموضوعات التي ستُعرَض على طاولة النقاش في الاجتماع، بالإضافة إلى بحث اخر التطورات التي تشهدها المنطقة، وكيفية التعامل مع سياسة الإدارة الجديدة في واشنطن .

وأعرب السيّد الوزير عن حرص العراق على التواصل الدائم مع اشقائه العرب ودعم جُهُود الجامعة العربيّة وأمينها العام في مساعي توحيد الكلمة والموقف العربي.

The Foreign Ministry appreciates the positions of friendly and brotherly countries, international organisations, as well as the calls and messages that Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received from his counterparts around the world of condolences to the government and people of Iraq following the terrorist attack that targeted the capital, Baghdad, on 21/1/2021, which left tens of martyrs and wounded.

Another crime is added to the record of terrorism, the one that claimed the lives of dozens of martyrs and injured many other Iraqi citizens.

We condemn the terrorist operation that took place in Baghdad today, Thursday January 21st and affirm that the Iraqi government will take all means to fight the remnants of terrorism, and is determined to continue to complete the war against its groups. The Foreign Ministry expresses its surprise on the decision issued by the US Treasury against Mr. Faleh Al-Fayadh head of the Popular Mobilization Commission. We stress that the decision was an unacceptable surprise and point out that the Ministry will carefully follow up with the current and new administration in Washington all decisions issued by the US Treasury Department against Iraqi names and work to address this matter.

تُعرِبُ وزارة الخارجيّة عن إستغرابها من القرار الصادر عن الخزانة الأمريكيّة بحقِّ السيد فالح الفيّاض رئيس هيئة الحشد الشعبيّ. وإذ نؤكِّدُ أنَّ القرار مثّلَ مفاجأة غير مقبولة، نُشيرُ إلى أنَّ الوزارةَ ستُتابع بعناية مع الإدارةِ الحالية والجديدة في واشنطن جميع القرارات الصادرة عن وزارة الخزانة الامريكيّة بحقِّ أسماءٍ عراقيّة والعمل على معالجة تبعاتِ ذلك.
