The Council of Arab Ambassadors set up under the auspices of the Arab League Mission to the United States on Monday evening, June 20th 2016, an Iftar farewell dinner in the honor of H.E. Ambassador Luqman Faily on the occasion of ending his tenure in the United States. The meeting focused on the bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, with discussions on the Iraqi government`s intention to transition the relationship beyond security and military aspects to broader areas in economic, oil, cultural sectors, as well as in education and investment, in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement.

In an interview with Al Mayadeen TV, Ambassador Faily discussed the US-Iraq relationship and the current situation in Iraq.

He discussed the ongoing situation in Anbar and disputed the prevailing sectarian narrative, noting the Iraqi government's "evenhanded" approach to tackling extremist groups throughout the country.

Ambassador Faily stressed that Iraq and the United States were cooperating at the highest levels to ensure that Iraq is equipped to fight Al-Qaeda militants. He highlighted aspects of the strategic partnership including cooperation on counter-terrorism and technology-transfer.
