Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari arrived in New York to represent Iraq in the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr. Al-Jaafari is expected to meet with foreign ministers, officials from several countries of the world, to discuss joint cooperation and strengthen relations and mobilize efforts to continue to stand by Iraq and contribute to the reconstruction of Iraqi cities.

In continuation of its efforts to re-represent Iraq in international forums, the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs culminated in the adoption of a resolution at the third session of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEA) in December 2017 entitled "Mitigation and Control of Pollution in Areas Affected by Armed Conflict or Terrorism" ), Which will allow Iraq to benefit from the support of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and a number of other countries affected by terrorism in providing support to mitigate the effects of pollution in areas hit by terrorism.

Iraq is keen to adhere to the agreements and the memorandums of understanding it has with the countries of the world within the framework of exchanging interests and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim delivered to the Minister of Culture Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Hamdani antiquities recovered by Ministry from several countries. These pieces included 156 Cuneiform tablets received by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London from the British Museum, and a file containing 250 documents dating back to the second century

The President of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Barham Salih, Iraq’s First Lady, Prime Minister of Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Foreign Minister Mohamed A. Alhakim participated in the Christmas Mass held in Baghdad .The Foreign Ministry invited the heads of diplomatic missions and accredited international organizations in Baghdad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ibrahim Al-Jaafari arrived in South Korea in an official visit for a few days, in the framework of promoting relations between Baghdad and Seoul and open horizons of mutual cooperation.

It's expected that the minister is to meet a number of officials, including, the South Korean Prime Minister, the Speaker of South Korea National Assembly, the President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), as well as, his Korean counterpart and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Dr. Rola Dashti, Executive Secretary of ESCWA. The two sides discussed the importance of cooperation between the ESCWA and Iraq in an effective manner, working to provide opportunities for economic well-being and social development, and enhancing cooperation among member countries to achieve regional integration in the UN reform project.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with the European Union's Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Mr. Gilles de Kerchove on the sidelines of the fifth EU-LAS ministerial meeting in Brussels.

The meeting discussed cooperation in combating terrorism. Minister Alhakim expressed Iraq's welcome to any European efforts to help fight terrorism and reiterated that restoring stability and building infrastructure will contribute to stability and eradicate the roots and ideology of terrorism.
